I have no qualms whatsoever with weight loss surgery for those who elect the option after having done the requisite homework and who take the risks into consideration.

Still, it irks me when 60 Minutes does a show intimating that WLS = no diabetes, when we know that those folks who have had WLS are low-carbing.

In effect, low-carb eating = no diabetes. WLS forces the issue of eating low-carb due to the risk of 'dumping'.

So why does 60 Minutes support WLS as the method for not only weight loss but for shedding diabetes?

I didn't see the show, but I don't understand the logic either. While I do understand that weight loss surgery is the way to go for some people, I just can't understand someone trying that BEFORE trying low-carb. I know in my heart that many people would be able to avoid surgery if they low-carbed by eating whole/natural foods. I think part of the problem has been the concept of low-carb bars. They are so full of sugar alcohols and can just absolutely ruin a low-carb diet. It makes me so sad to see someone fail at low-carb due to their belief that the bars are ok, then go on to have surgery, when they may have done fantastic and not needed the surgery by eating whole/natural foods.
