If you like hot creamy drinks that are a bit sweet and still super healthy, you will love this warming vegan low carb golden milk. Made from soy milk, it is spiced with turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and cardamom, and slightly sweetened with coconut sugar or brown keto sweetener. This drink not only provides warmth but also heaps of flavour and healthy low carb ingredients. All you need is a well-stocked spice shelf, two cups of soy milk and a few minutes of your time to serve this great hot drink to two people.

It is soo cold outside here these days. Germany’s north is in a rare grip of a cold spell, complete with northern winds, stormy guts, snowfall and icy pathways. We still walk the dog thrice a day of course, so what is better than a hot comforting, spice infused drink upon return? This is where this warming vegan golden milk comes in. This golden and fragrant drink drink deliciously warms you up from the inside.

If you prefer cow’s milk just use it instead – and make the recipe in the exact same way as described below. Just beware of the thin skin that may form. Remove this skin carefully with a strainer spoon before pouring your golden milk into the serving cups.

Ingredients 🥛

Turmeric is the spice that gives curry its yellow color. It comes from small modest-looking roots with a stunningly orange-coloured interior. It has been used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb, for example in Ayurvedic medicine.

Turmeric’s main active ingredient is called curcumin. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. Curcumin is fat-soluble so enjoying together with some healthy fats makes its benefits more available to your body. That’s why I serve it with a small bowl of mixed unsalted nuts as shown on the picture above.

On top of that, the other spices in your golden milk are also health-promoting! Both ginger and cinnamon are also known for their anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits.

Instructions 🥄

Making this yummy drink is super-easy. Just put a small pot on medium heat and pour in two cups of unsweetened soy milk. Warm it up while stirring regularly. Keep heating and stirring until some bubbles form on the surface, but the milk should not boil.

Once you reach this stage, put the heat down a notch and stir in one tablespoon of coconut sugar or brown keto sweetener. Which one you choose depends entirely on your tolerance for a few carbs. I have used both, and it is equally delicious. The sweetener goes in first on order to give it time to dissolve properly – so stir well for a minute or so to support that process.

Then it is time add your spices and stir. Keep heat at medium-low and wait until those bubbles form again. Heating the drink up again helps the spices to emit their flavour and mix with the liquid.

Remove golden milk from heat and wait for a minute. If a think skin forms on the surface, remove it with a strainer spoon. Taste golden milk and add more sweetener of spices if you feel the need.

That’s it! Now you can pour this delicious dink into two mugs and serve it alongside your nuts. Enjoy warming up from the inside!

Description

This low carb vegan golden milk is full of spices and warms you up
from the inside after a winter walk. Just heat some soy milk and add turmeric, keto sweetener and a few delicous spices!


Ingredients

For 2 servings

2 cups unsweetened soy milk

1 tsp turmeric

1 tbsp coconut sugar or brown keto sweetener (for example sukrin gold)

1/2 tsp cinnamon powder

1/4 tsp ginger powder

pinch of cardamom


Instructions

  1. Heat your soy milk in a small pot on medium heat. Heat it until it gets really hot with small bubbles forming – but not to the boil. Stir constantly. That would take a few minutes.
  2. Put heat down a notch, and add your sweetener and stir again – the sweetener goes in first on order to give it time to dissolve properly.
  3. Then add your spices and stir. Keep heat at medium-low and wait until those bubbles form again.
  4. Remove from heat and wait for a minute. If a think skin forms on the surface, remove it with a strainer spoon. Taste and add more sweetener of spices if you feel the need.
  5. Serve hot with a small bowl of mixed nuts.

Notes
